I don't do this much

I have recently received a redundancy package and would like feedback on
where to invest this money to get the best possible return whilst looking
for a new job.

Then see an IFA.

If you want somewhere secure, there's a TV advert on at the moment
promising 8% in a savings account for the first 12 months. There are
probably strings attached.

Can they do anything useful given the short term nature of the
investment that the OP ought to be looking for?

He can't tie the money up for years as he may need to spend
it to live on if finding a new job takes longer than expected.

Of course, I hope that he doesn't. but he must invest on that
basis.

This is for regular savings of up to 250pm (just checked, as I saw
the ad myself and though that it was too good a deal)

It is a regular savings account. Fine if you want to put some money aside
every month from your salary, but no use for a lump sum.

A 'decent' IFA should be able to help by advising on the best
alternatives, ..., but ...
Go on, say it. Decency is about as widespread among IFAs as
virginity is among whores.
