Wondering about when you guys think audit and tax services will be fully automated?

If someone in high school were to currently pursue accounting, would they have to worry about robots taking over in their lifetime?

Is it realistic to say that accountants will be automated in 50 years or would it take longer?

I think tax is ripe for it because despite being fairly complex, it has quite a narrow remit and it's far more rules driven which is ideal for computer technology to process given any particular set of data.

Audit on the other hand has far more leeway for interpretation and application of audit/accounting standards so there's far more variables to consider. That said, given the speed at which technology is developing, 50 years ahead is a long time.
