Wrong symbol?

P

Peter

I cannot perform an online update for M&G British Opportunities fund.
Money tell me it doesn't recognise the symbol and refers me to the
Portfolio o correct it.

However, when I do this I still get the same message, whichever one of
the three symbols I try. These are:

1. 319502
2. GB003195022
3. GB003092736

Can anyone suggest what is going wrong?

Those kind of look okay - which version of Money are you using?

The long symbols can't be used in Money 2000 (only 2003 and in 2002 with a
patch), so you'd need to use the short code.##Just tried 319502 in 2003 and
it worked fine, so check that you have the correct Country defined on the
investment details. I would suggest you try a new file too, and see whether
it works in that. DO any other funds have problems?
Hi Glyn,

Thanks for your reply.

I tried the long codes as they were shown as choices for that fund,
when the short one failed.

The country defined in the details is Great Britain

I have three other funds and there doesn't appear to be a problem with
them - they all have short codes - 024611 as an example.

What do you mean by trying a new file?

Hi Glyn,

In reply to your earlier posting - I added another M&G fund - (the
same one) and updated the price online and it seems to have cured the
problem.

However this has prompted me to check some other prices.

I note that the share price for C&W shares (code 162257) appears to
update (I get no error message) but the price doesn't tie up with the
price the shares closed at on Friday - Money shows a price of 109p,
but Yahoo finance tells me they closed at 112.75p

Any idea what the problem may be?

Try using CW. or 162557 (not what you have below, which is different and
will not return any information).

Oops, sorry, 162557 is what I have - 162257 was typo in my NG post.

Still doesn't work

Is it working today at all? Have you tried it yet in a new file?
Not working at all - no updates for C&W (162557)

You have tried CW. haven;t you? and it is set up as a stock rather than a
fund?

If a new file doesn't work (although I am still unclear whether you have
tried this), nor the existing one, then it sounds like something on your
machine is blocking the connection somehow. CW. is currently working on a
test file I created. Turn off all caching, clear out your temporary internet
files, disable firewalls etc.
Yes I have tried a new file - I set up another investment account and
allocated it the symbol CW.

It appears to have automatically updated the account as requested -
but with the wrong amount! It shows each share (it is set up as a
share not a bond) as being worth 172.25p - C&W closed at 116.5 today.

I have now done the same thing, but this time used the code 162557 -
this works OK in the new (bogus) share account, but not in the C&W
account.

I have now deleted my bogus account which I had named "fred" and have
tried to rename my C&W account with that name (in the hope that the
online price update would work - I can live with the wrong name)
Unfortunately Money won't let me use the name as it tells me it is in
use already - but I have deleted the account!

Any suggestions please? i am beginning to lose heart with this ongoing
problem :-(

See earlier reply.

I have just noticed that four other investments aren't updating online
either - I find it hasrd to believe that ALL my accounts have problems
- could it be Money that's at fault?

If the value appears wrong, check the currency of the investment account

If all investments are not updating then it sounds like either a problem
with Money (run the repair tool) or a connection problem.

If no luck then, call MS.

hi glyn,

I'm happy it's not a connection problem - I was able to download a
valid share price into a dummy account.

So it's the repair tool - all i have to do is find it :)
