What a wast of time this is? Only £10?
What can you do with this? (apart from buy your Xmas dinner at Iceland!)

Well if you don't want it, I'm sure you'll find someone somewhere who
could do with an additional tenner.
The government isn't in the habit of paying for a slap up Christmas
dinner complete with presents for people. £10 is what they give, and
what they've given for years.

Bah Humbug!
I hate Xmas at the best of times! Think I'll spend it on a bottle of
Bourbon.

The first year it was paid it was equivalent to the weekly basic
retirement pension rate. In Ireland it still is the equivalent of one
week's pension. In the UK, I think it's safe to say that it hasn't kept
pace with inflation!

Rather like the old funeral allowance which did at one time cover
funerals. Not any more.

Still, if the government decided to get rid of the £10 christmas bonus
in order to save costs (might save a few million on admin alone), you
can bet there'd be people complaining loudly.
To me, its just £10. But to some it will be every meal for a week at
christmas.

Get a turkey for £10, cook it for a couple of hours - and you have
dinner meat and sandwich meat for 1 person for over a week, come to
think of it.

In the UK the State Pension has been deliberately pitched since
Thatcher's day *not* to keep pace with inflation.

Mind you, when you are paying your tax and NI to pay for your State
Pension, you can be very sure that your *contributions* are deliberately
pitched to keep pace with inflation.

So the fact is, that everyone who receives a State Pension gets short
changed.
