Hi,
I became interested in disaster relief and wondered if I could specialise accounting service in this area. I believe disaster relief involves accounting for the amount of damage, registering the needs of victims and allocating resources effectively and this may relate to accounting functions, with possible expansion to sustainable planning (reconstruction) and quality audits as well…
I researched to find a way into this sector but wasn't very successful. I’m not sure how I could design this career path…Could anyone offer advice on this?
Thanks,
Kay

You might start with government accounting or humanitarian relief positions. There are classes in government and not-for-profit accounting. I imagine these are the organizations most involved in these types of processes. They use fund accounting and have slightly different regulations and budgetary restrictions. I don't know where reconstruction would go other than construction companies or government contracts to rebuild a burned down city hall or something like that.
