How can I find out. the FMV of a property in 1998? Estate passed to Daughter. Daughter would like to use it as a rental. Need to find FMV as of her Mother's death for the the Depreciable Bases.

According to Internal Revenue Code Section 1014, the tax basis of inherited property is generally the fair market value on the date of death, or the alternate valuation date if that value was used on the decedent's estate tax return.

Please help :)

Given that you do not have an appraisal done as of the date of death, I suggest the next best thing is to find a nearby comparable property that sold about the same time. Real estate agents have access to databases of real estate transactions. I would try that and document as best you can the approach you are using.
