USA Inserting item(s) in register

If one misses entering a transaction, is there any way to insert in into the register so it will match the order entered in a check book?

This ultimately depends on what kind of transaction (presuming a check) and what accounting system you are using.

If one misses a transaction that should've been posted but wasn't then usually it's an "oops" and just post it in the current period. If it's big money then it can get more serious - and annoying, to fix.

just post the journal entry in the same date and post month that the transaction was supposed to occur.
