amortization of muni bond premium

My wife inherited a muni bond whose market value at the date of inheritance was in excess of the par value. The issuer called the bond at par before its stated maturity. Should I amortize the implied premium (value at date of inheritance in excess of par) to the call date, in which case the call produces no gain or loss?
