Donation versus Contribution

I am filling a new role as Controller at a Community Health Center and I found that last year's audit contained a reclassification adjustment from Donations to Contributions. What would make an auditor make this distinction, especially when it was not all donations moved to contributions and it did not change the Restricted/Unrestricted Net Assets?
