($ in thousands)
Stockholders' equity:
Preferred stock, $1 par value $ 4,500
Common stock, $1 par value 20,000
Additional paid-in capital 585,000

Total paid-in capital 609,500
Retained earnings 279,000
Treasury stock, 16,000 common shares (288,000)

Total stockholders' equity $ 600,500

I don't understand how i'm supposed to find the number of preffered and common stock shares from this information. I figured it would just be 4,500 and 20,000 divided by it's par value, but that doesn't seem to be right. Please help, im stuck. Thanks to all
