Hi there,

I'm pretty new to accounting so forgive my ignorance.

I'm having trouble matching up the change in fixed assets over a 1 year period with what I think should have contribute to a change in those assets.

I'm sure that description is as clear as mud!

What I want to do is look at which components should be reflected in the net annual change of fixed assets, so currently I have the following pro forma:

Opening fixed assets
+ capital expenditure
- d & a
- disposals

= closing fixed assets

But when I do this for the company I am looking at, it doesn't work.

Is there something blindingly obvious that I am doing wrong?!

Please help!!

Thanks in advance

Hi triest123,

Thanks a lot for that, it's very helpfull.

I suppose part of what I'm really trying to do is see how elements from the cash flow statements change fixed assets and if we can calculate change in fixed assets purely from looking at the cash flow statement? Is that possible do you know?

Thanks again, I really appreciate your help on this

=> The cashflow statement only concerns the cash actually paid for acquiring the
fixed assts and the cash actually received from the disposal of the fixed assets.

So, it is not possible to calculate the fixed assets movement purely from the
cashflow statement

Ok, thanks again triest123.

So what else would be needed and from which financial statements?

I would like to be able to get as detailed analysis of what has changed fixed assets as possible.

=> You should read the "note to account" from the financial statments.
