Hello everyone!

I am trying to do a journal entries and I am stuck with two entries, the statement says:

-Utility invoices for the year totaled 5,890$
- A total of 6,100$ was paid to utility companies

I did
Utility expense 5890$ (debit)

Utility payable 5890 (credit)

Utility expense 6100$ (debit)

Cash 6,100$ (debit)

Furthermore, when I add all the cash in debit column and credit column I have more cash in credit....Does that automatically mean that I did something wrong?

Kind regards,

Anthyme

It looks like your Cash $6100 debit should be a credit as the opposite entry to your utility expense debit.
