Chart of Accounts

Hi

I am a fresh graduate. I work in investment company as an analyst in management reporting team. I have question regarding Chart of Accounts. I add anew account or product in Chart of Accounts in Oracle and in excel sheet. There are many unused accounts in Chart of Accounts.I don't know how to get rid of it. Could anybody please help me.
