Patronage dividends

Do we need to consider patronage dividends payment while calculating dividend per share?

Aren't these just used for co-ops? I don't think a public company would not issue these so it likely doesn't matter but if a conceptual question I would say Yes, since these are really the same thing which are distributions of profit to members.
