USA Accounting Department Size

Hello everyone. I'm in charge of an accounting department and I'm trying to find information that discusses how many accountants should be in an accounting department. My company has $150M of annual revenue and is a public company. Preferably I'd like to get my hands on some in-depth analysis.

I doubt you will find something that matches your situation exactly. Staff size depends mostly on degree of automation in the accounting dept , on average transaction size, and the industry you are in. If you join an industry group you can ask your fellow members.

It might help to know:

• How many employees does your company have?
• Do you have several branches and subsidiaries?
• Is your business retail with many transactions and low prices? Or is it expensive manufactuing with fewer transactions at higher prices?

Our company has 95+ employees and generates 12-13 million in annual revenue - we have 1 full-time accountant.
