Every company, big or small, should have knowledgeable and competent accounting help. If a company is profitable enough to be able to afford to hire an accountant to work solely for them, then great. But if a small business cannot afford to or maybe doesn't have enough work to offer a full time employee, then hiring out their accounting work is a very viable alternative. Some companies hire a bookkeeper to do their daily bookkeeping then have an independent accountant oversee the bookkeeper's work and handle the more complex accounting entries and issues. This is a service that I offer as a CPA. It all depends on your business and its needs.
