USA Foreign mortgage currency exchange gain

Hello,

I have a new client with a foreign mortgage. US resident. I am looking for an advice on how to calculate the gain/loss on currency exchange on that mortgage repayments.
In September 2018 she purchased a foreign property with a mortgage from a foreign bank for foreign currency 200,000. In 2019 she repaid part of it (6,000 foreign currency).
How I translate this in functional currency (USD in her case) so I can determine if she had a gain or loss on the exchange?
