USA Quickbooks desktop and PO for services

I'm stuck. I'm using Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2017 and it appears that the only way to enable Purchase orders is to have inventory? This is a new company andit "buys" and "sells" services only. There is no "inventory" as such. Our supplier requires a PO however. Help?
