UK Which accountancy qualification is best for me?

I am looking at the possibility of becoming an accountant and want a bit of advice on what qualification I should consider.
I have previously studied to BTEC Higher National Diploma level in Leisure Studies - totally unrelated I know. Up until two years ago I was a Cemap qualified mortgage advisor.
All suggestions welcome

I would suggest starting with AAT, due to your background, and then progress from there. You will soon get a flavour for whether or not accountancy is for you.

What do you intend to do with your qualification and how quickly?

If you intend to be in employment, almost any route will do. AAT is widely accepted by employers. If you intend to set up in practice you need to be aware that different bodies impose different limitations on your ability to practice.
