Hello.
I'm a freelance web designer. I just started freelance last year and recently picked up a freelance work from a slightly larger company. Doing websites and such. So I'm very new to this. Back in January, they asked for information for a 1099, as in address and social. I understood that. Now I get a phone call today by the company asking if it would be ok if they treated me like a vendor? She wanted to make me aware of this so later on when I don't receive a 1099 I won't be wondering why.
So I'm new to freelance and I didn't want to appear dumb to her and so I agreed to it saying Oh it's no problem! Now I'm not sure what she's talking about! I'm thinking I might have agreed to something I shouldn't have. I don't know how this is going to affect me and my taxes. And how they're going to claim the work I do for them. Will it still be linked to my social?
Can someone explain to me what this all means?
