Invoice with corresponding credit note

Hi,
If you have an invoice (not yet booked) for which you immediately received a credit note with the total amount, do you still need to book both the invoice and credit note or can you choose not to book anything since net amount is 0?

Record both so you always have the invoice and CM reference in your GL system.
