Hello All,

My company is a logistic company. We deliver appliances and construction materials for vendors. We have our own delivery team and subcontractor teams. There are two problems on the accounting side.

1) Relying heavily on Excel to build the settlement invoices for subcontractors and vendors.
2) In short sophisticated accounting software instead of Quickbook.

Any suggestions for accounting software in the combination of building invoices and doing accounting. Thank you!

Hi Walking Down The Street,

Hope I'm not too late. I would probably suggest SAP or Navision. My company has been using SAP for business related to constructions and real estate. For Navision, it is quite nimble to handle the job as well, however, when it comes to Project, Navision most likely requires a customization with the software partner.

You can also ask the SAP/ Navision partners to demonstrate the needs of your company using Use cases, so that you and your users can see whether its worth it.

Hope this helps.

Selecting the right accounting software for a logistics company is crucial because it involves managing complex financial transactions, often including multiple currencies, inventory management, and compliance with industry-specific regulations. Here are some accounting software options that are well-suited for logistics companies based on their features and capabilities:
  1. SAP S/4HANA for Logistics: SAP S/4HANA is an enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution that offers industry-specific capabilities for logistics and transportation. It can help manage inventory, supply chain operations, and financials in a unified system. It's known for its robust features and scalability.
  2. Oracle Transportation Management: Oracle offers a comprehensive transportation management system that can be integrated with Oracle's financial management software. This combination allows for seamless tracking of logistics operations and financial transactions.
  3. Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations: Dynamics 365 is a scalable cloud-based ERP solution that can be customized to meet the needs of logistics companies. It offers capabilities for financial management, supply chain management, and analytics.
  4. NetSuite for Transportation and Logistics: NetSuite, a cloud-based ERP system, offers modules designed specifically for the transportation and logistics industry. It provides tools for financial management, inventory control, and supply chain visibility.
  5. Infor CloudSuite Supply Chain: Infor's CloudSuite Supply Chain is tailored for supply chain management, including logistics and transportation. It includes features for financial management, demand planning, and inventory optimization.
  6. QuickBooks Commerce: If you're a smaller logistics company, QuickBooks Commerce (formerly known as TradeGecko) can be a cost-effective option. It offers inventory and order management capabilities and can integrate with accounting software like QuickBooks Online.
  7. Xero with Add-Ons: Xero is a user-friendly accounting software that can be enhanced with various add-ons and integrations. For logistics, you might consider integrating Xero with inventory management tools like DEAR Inventory or Unleashed.
  8. Zoho Books: Zoho Books is a cloud-based accounting software that can be suitable for smaller logistics companies. It offers features for financial management and can integrate with other Zoho apps and third-party logistics tools.
When evaluating accounting software for your logistics company, consider the following factors:
  • Industry-specific features: Look for software that offers logistics and supply chain-specific features such as inventory management, shipment tracking, and international currency support.
  • Scalability: Ensure the software can grow with your company's needs as your logistics operations expand.
  • Integration: Check if the software can seamlessly integrate with other logistics and transportation tools, such as route optimization software or warehouse management systems.
  • Multi-currency and Multi-location Support: Given the international nature of logistics, the software should handle multiple currencies and locations effectively.
  • Reporting and Analytics: Robust reporting and analytics tools can help you gain insights into your financial performance and logistics operations.
  • Compliance: Verify that the software can handle industry-specific compliance requirements, such as transportation regulations and tax rules for international shipments.
  • User-Friendliness: User-friendly software can help streamline operations and reduce training time for your team.
  • Customer Support: Assess the level of customer support and training options provided by the software provider.
Ultimately, the choice of accounting software for your logistics company should align with your unique business needs and budget. It's advisable to request demos or trial periods for the software solutions you're considering to ensure they meet your specific requirements. Additionally, consulting with industry peers or experts in logistics and finance can provide valuable insights into the best-fit solution for your company.

Hi Walking Down The Street, I worked for a logistics company that used Lawson. They kept all of their GL and AP data and distributed many reports on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis. They also used a custom designed inventory system for their logistic needs.
Hope this is helpful!
